My Chosen Idea
I have chosen to write my second idea, 'Aportalypse', because I feel it is original and deliverable. The synopsis I have created is that "A scientifically powerful company investigates the control of portals but the technology malfunctions and portals start to open randomly, swallowing people in the public." and the main plot is that the "malfunction" is done on purpose by the mad scientist as part of his plan while the protagonists have to stop the machine before the whole town is destroyed.
Plot
This follows the 'Tzvetan Todorov Theory' of narrative structure although the order of events is chronological whereas it may not in my script.
1. Equilibrium - Meet the characters - Two heroes and their helper as well as the villain and assistant
2. Disruption - Manufacturing of portals - News broadcast of advancement, but behind closed doors, things start to go wrong
3. Recognition - Portals start spawning - Random one-way portals begin to swallow the public. More and more reports of missing people are being made. The heroes try to work together to solve the mysteries and the male hero gets taken by a portal and disappears
4. Resolution - The heroes go to the laboratory - They find the villain 'Mad Scientist' struggling to try and stop the portals. The Assistant confesses to programming the portals but before they say where the people have gone, they get swallowed by a portal
5. New Equilibrium - The portals get shut down - The heroes and the scientist shut down the portals but all the victims are lost forever. Ruins of the town remain but the remaining characters are safe.
Characters
Male hero - Malcolm Carter - 29 - an intelligent tech assistant who has an obsession with alien technology and sci-fi films. Physically average but on the verge of genius, battles against his caution to try to become a saviour.
Female heroine - Jen (Yu-Wan) Lee - 27 - an athletic delivery girl who meets Malcolm when the first portals activate, extremely physically fit and strong with some masculine characteristics and mannerisms, at points alpha.
Helper - Marcus Touré - 30 - a strong and confident Black British man, friends with Jen through his weight training at the gym. He works as a part-time mechanic, part-time personal trainer, he can be an introvert at points, alpha by the end.
Mad Scientist (false villain) - Dr Smith - 66 1/2 - a certified genius, a traditional English man of his age but all the signs point to him being the evil scientist, especially due to his experimentation with dangerous portals.
Assistant - Paul Fox-Heather - 28 - the assistant to the scientist who is always by his side or in the shadows, excellent at hiding his ability to reprogram the portals to be a weapon. Two-faced, kind on the outside but pure evil. British but not someone you would want to associate with the country.
Logline
A genius tech assistant and a sassy delivery girl need to have the luck to survive when out-of-control portals begin to abduct people at random. The only way to save the day is to get to the source and shut them down: every second could be their last.
